Taxonomy, Systematics, & Biogeography of freshwater peracarid crustaceans
Unraveling the secrets in our streams
My research focuses on the taxonomy, systematics, and evolutionary/biogeographic history of the Nearctic freshwater peracarids. Peracarid crustaceans include representatives of both the Amphipoda (scuds) and Isopoda (slaters, woodlice, rolypolys, etc…) both of which are relatively understuided in the Nearctic. Not only is there still a lot to uncover about the taxonomy of members of these groups, but they also serve well as models for examining evolutionary and biogeographic patterns of aquatic organisms in general. I focus on not only recording and describing species from throughout North America but also uncovering aspects of their natural/evolutionary/biogeographic history and relating these data to broader aspects of freshwater biodiversity.
